Ms. Simms is recognized for her unique blend of
expertise in the corporate, governmental and community sectors.
She has more than 30 years experience in the community
planning and development field. Her credentials include: a Master's
degree in Community Planning and Social Work from the University
of Maryland in Baltimore City; post graduate work in organizational
development at Central Michigan University; and doctoral coursework
in Urban Sociology at Wayne State University. She is a licensed
Michigan real estate broker. She also holds several certificates
of completion from the Neighborhood Reinvestment Training Institute
and other professional development organizations. Ms. Simms holds
advanced fitness training and coaching certifications from the Cooper
Institute founded by Dr. Kenneth Cooper who coined the term "aerobics."
For 15 years, Ms. Simms served as a real estate
development professional with General Motors Corporation. She also
held executive level planning positions with Wayne County and the
City of Detroit. She has proven adept at successfully completing
projects in many communities: small, medium and large; urban and
rural. As Director of Programs and Community & Economic Development
Services for the Michigan Neighborhood Partnership she was responsible
for: Health Initiatives, Youth & Family Programs, Individual
Development Accounts; Faith-Based Initiatives; Housing and Community
Development. Ms. Simms also served as the Vice President of Training
and Consulting for a special needs adoption agency and as Development
Director for an agency serving victims of domestic violence and
sexual abuse.
Ms. Simms has provided leadership to several governing
boards of charter schools, faith-based, community and professional
organizations including the National Association of Women Business
Owners. She is also a graduate of Leadership Detroit (MI) and Leadership
Cumberland (TN).
Her client list includes: the Tennessee Technology
Center, Michigan State Housing Development Authority and the US
Environmental Protection Agency.
