quality of life for the residents of Laconia Nursing Home.

in the South Bronx, from Community Board 3.

Rosie E. Mills was born in the Commonwealth of Dominica,
West Indies. She attended elementary and high school in Dominica, graduated,
and eventually migrated to the United States.
She started her career by becoming a Certified Nursing
Assistant and progressed to the Assistant Director of Activities while
at Laconia Nursing Home in the North Bronx. Rosie determined to further
her education began attending Audrey Cohen College (presently Metropolitan
College of New York) while employed at the nursing home. She received her
Bachelor’s degree in Professional Studies in 1994. Ms. Mills, in
pursuit of excellence and higher learning, entered Fordham University and
in 1996 received her Master of Science degree in Adult Education.
Ms. Mills, in 1996 was named the Executive Director of
the William Hodson Community Center, Inc. in the Bronx. William Hodson
Senior Center is the oldest senior citizen center in the United States.
As Executive Director, Ms. Mills is accountable to the Board of Directors,
NYC Department For The Aging, and other agencies for the daily operations
of the center. Her first priority however, is making sure that she meets
the needs of the older adults that she serves. Rosie continued on her educational
journey while managing the center and obtained a Ph.D. in Health and Human
Services – Gerontology in 2005 from Walden University.
Dr. Mills is a certified professional trainer and a member
of the Professional Woman Network (PWN), an international consulting organization
specializing in personal, and professional developing training. Banks,
Corporations, Colleges and Universities, Hospitals, the Department of Defense,
and the American Heart Association have utilized this network successfully.
Dr. Mills has many years experience working in the field
of Human Services, specifically with the elderly. These experiences provided
a sound basis for developing personal and professional goals for others.
